You may consider a yard sale a waist of your time and just want to unload the items by giving them away to charity. This does have its benefits; in that items that you donate are typically a tax write off for basically its blue book value. This value typically is more than you could get at a yard sale. But you should consider the benefits of selling vs. donating.
